National Recording Artist, Girlfriend, Releases Highly Anticipated Single, “FWY”
Memphis recording artist known as Girlfriend has been hard at work as she prepares to release her self-entitled album. To give her fans a taste of what’s to come, Girlfriend has released her new single, “FWY”. Growing up, Girlfriend had the pleasure of being surrounded by different genres in which molded her into the artist she is today. She credits her father due to his love for R&B and reggae. She stated, “I’ve been singing since I was 7 years old. I would hear people on the radio singing and would try to replicate what they were doing.”
Girlfriend has come a long way since singing along with the radio as she has quickly climbed the ladder within the independent music scene. She has collaborated with prominent artists such as Big Boogie and Yung Bleu, which has certainly increased her visibility with different audiences. Throughout her career thus far, Girlfriend has learned the importance of investing in herself and being independent. For her upcoming project, Girlfriend produced the album in its entirety. She explained, “I don’t like waiting. When I want to record, I want to be able to record. I don’t want to work around people’s time. I don’t rely on other people. Covid was a learning experience and I took it upon myself to learn engineering.”
Due to her pure talent, motivation, and ability to do anything she sets her mind to, Girlfriend has ventured on the path of stardom and has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. When asked what she wants her fans to take from her new single “FWY” and upcoming project, she stated, “This is my new sound. I feel it’s a better indicator of my full potential.”
